My whole family just love it!! Instead of using jar of stale beef I only use 8oz. sparse slices of beefiness lunchmeat "Budding" and it a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and you don't even take to rinse!! You must try information technology and believe me, y'all won't be disappointed!!!!

Only like moms, minus the pepper and her beef came out of a bag. TIP: If you find this dish as well salty, soak the beefiness in cold water for about 10 minutes, and drain. Try a piece, if its still too salty, soak in fresh water for 10 more minutes.

Comfort Food! Once I got the roux down (it took 2 tries), information technology was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned table salt and cracked blackness pepper. I was surprised at how piece of cake this recipe was. At first i was concerned that at that place was too much beef for the recipe simply it turned out perfect! It is rare to observe a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would similar a little more than flavour but i dont know what else to add together. This recipe is G-R-E-A-T!!! If yours turned out too salty, you probably used the jarred dried beef and should take RINSED it first. We used fresh dried beefiness from our local locker. I accept been making Chipped Beefiness for years and I learned from watching my female parent. I don't use a written recipe but I use the dried beef in the jar. I cut the beef into small-scale pieces and saute it in the butter a few minutes then that the beef flavor escapes into the butter and then I add together the flour and milk. You can also add a small corporeality of beef bullion granules. This recipe is even better if you make it the solar day before you lot plan to eat it! Great comfort food!

My mom always made this when I was a little daughter and I've made it for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more than flavor than butter). I melt that and then stir in my beef. My favorite is to get it from a deli but that is usually not possible and so buddig beef in the packages is the next best affair. I mix that with the parkay until lightly brownish. I pour the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add together the flour and shake. I cascade this mixture over superlative of the beefiness and butter and cook until heated and slightly thick. Information technology is and then much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.

This was so simple and and then good. I used the Budding sliced beef and it was not salty at all. My hubby liked it alot. I made to much so we were going to have leftovers the next mean solar day for tiffin - Big fault considering this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. Well, I started reading the reviews and constitute that most of them were the same. This is what we used to have in the Air Force and called it SOS only information technology didn't stand for "Same old Stuff". It stood for "Southward*** on a Shingle" and most of us asked for it by that proper noun. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if you want to keep it classic you cannot add any of the other "stuff" either. I accept ever used the Buddig packs. If y'all want to endeavor something better try using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beefiness. I telephone call it "Sham on a Shingle" and it is the only way that I make it now.

Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly every bit written. I used the dried beef called for, not hamburger or Walmart beef. Despite the fact that the beef label merely suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beef, I did not do so because the recipe never mentioned rinsing. This is just like my Nanny used to make. The only matter I did different is we swallow ours over potatoes. Merely boil the potatoes, brew them on your plate. While the recipe is excellent, I quite frequently make it using very lean ground beef. Chocolate-brown the beefiness in a pocket-size pot, add the flour to the beef,stir, so add the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the job of making a roux. I so add a bear on of wostershire sauce and some onion pulverisation, garlic pulverisation and salt/pepper to gustatory modality.

This is a good starting point! My mom's best friend makes this all of the time and I accept fond memories of it growing up:) She adds a minor chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. As well Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a little sherry or white wine tops it off! She also always served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (not the sheet). We take eaten this every Easter Sunday, for the past 50 years. Here's our family's twist. Showtime we make a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A nice rich white sauce. The chipped beef is sliced & and so must be soaked in warm water to become the saltiness out. I could not find the dried beef in a jar, and then I used the carl budig sparse sliced pastrami luncheon meat. I cutting it into strips and heated in a fry pan before adding it to the white sauce. Recently, I found myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early childhood. The men in the family beloved this but I use four TB butter, 4 TB flour and two cups of milk and two pkg corned beefiness. I heat the 2 cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add together milk all at once to the roux and then I don't accept to spend forever stirring it.

And don't add Whatever salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, you can mix the milk & flour together first (I use common cold milk, or half & half) in a measuring cup and add to melted butter all at one time.

Upon a review and suggestion I used lunch meat and I would have to say employ the dried beef it would had been much better. The foam sauce seemed to exist missing that flavor that comes with it and that may had been due to using the dejeuner meat instead of the dried beef. And so I would maybe try this over again simply I would use the dried beef and maybe a tablespoon more of butter.

I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had fabricated and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the food processor and chopped it all upward. I fabricated a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave outset for v mins that manner it doesn't scald and makes information technology faster to make. I as well warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I also added a pinch of garlic salt because it was as well banal for my taste. While the milk was in the microwave I fabricated the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and so put the meat in the sauce and information technology was done in ten minutes. We all enjoyed this chipped beefiness for dinner (myself, my hubby, my 5 year old son and 4 twelvemonth old girl). I rinsed the beef, just I call back that I must have "over" rinsed it. I accept made this recipe a couple of times and each time it has been GREAT! I like to add some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful comfort food. It is incredibly cheap, quick and easy. I would suggest ownership dried beef for this and not using the luncheon meat as someone suggested. I tried it the first time that I made information technology to save money, simply was disappointed by the taste. No need to salt a 2d fourth dimension when using the dried beefiness correct from the jar.

Since I drained the beef it needed a lilliputian salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in blackness pepper instead. I serve it on toast.

You demand to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is sparse. It but makes enough for two people or embrace 4 pieces of toast and the chipped beefiness is really salty even though I rinsed the chip beef in hot water and allow it boil in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beef in h2o before calculation to the roux.

I have been making chipped beef on toast for years. I start out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower heat and stir until information technology gets slightly brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright'south concentrated Hickory Seasoning (liquid smoke). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they call it (SOS- on a shingle)

This is my daughter'southward all-fourth dimension favorite breakfast. She eats it once a week. I apply the Buddig brand Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and cream instead of milk, just every bit skilful, if non better.

my mom used to make this and i had been peckish it! came out perfect the second time...the outset fourth dimension i made a big oops! didn't wash the beef off...i didn't know to do it and information technology was pretty much inedible. second time around i rinsed it and information technology came out perfect! so for anyone else that has never cooked with dry beef...be warned! rinse information technology first :-)

The husband could not become plenty of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a little estrus which was nice, add together more than if you lot like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this ane again and again.

I tripled the sauce and used one-half a pd of dried beefiness chipped from the cafeteria. Nosotros swallow this when nosotros leave for breakfast. Y'all can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the most pop is toast. I liked this better than what we get out, and everyone in the house liked information technology. Thanks for the recipe.

Simply like the kind mom used to brand. I used a package of budding beef and chopped it up. I had to double the recipe for my family of four though.

We are beef farmers and dried beef is in the freezer. This is just nearly the but fashion we like dried beef. I was looking here for more ideas of what to make with it and establish that I had already tried them all: chicken bake, creamed beef, and overnight goulash. Our favorite mode of eating creamed beef is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a trivial flake of nutmeg and beef broth and seasoning pulverisation, but this evening I will attempt the pepper.

Good stuff, similar what mom made but w/ an added boot. I use the beef in the plastic handbag, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. But, I'm an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an old stand up-by recipe that I take prepared for my family unit for years. I use 2 packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add merely a dash of both onion powder and garlic powder, along with common salt and pepper to taste before I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe 5 stars. A quick and easy meal!

Had a deep want for creamed chipped beef tonight. Being just after mid-March I likewise had some leftover corned beefiness. Used it in this basic roux recipe and information technology is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Too my father taught me how to cook very rich so I used 1/3 heavy whipping cream to 2/3+- pure h2o as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavor.

I've been making this dish for years, I kickoff slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into boiling water to remove some of the table salt, and so saute it in butter, add cornstarch and then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. flavour w/a bit of white pepper... that's the accurate way to brand information technology!
